Jack is a musician and sound designer based out of Richmond, in the beautiful piedmont of Virginia. They currently work as an Audiovisual Designer for Pershing Technologies, modelling plans and software for many different acoustic spaces. Previously they worked as the Music Equipment Support Specialist for the Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts, where they also graduated from in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Technology. Jack’s background in percussion serves as a major foundation for their music composition and sound design. Experience with unpitched percussion, performing unusual instruments, interlocking rhythms, and a focus on auditory textures permeates their creations. Some of Jack’s biggest influences in music come from the worlds of jazz, EDM, and disco, all combining in their original works and arrangements.

As a percussionist, Jack has played with the VT Wind Ensemble as section leader, VT Jazz ensembles, and the VT Percussion Ensemble. They have also performed throughout Richmond and Blacksburg VA with various rock bands as well as the Blacksburg Community Band. Jack has been teaching drum lessons since 2018, and always makes teaching future musicians a priority.

Jack’s music has been performed live by the Virginia Tech Percussion Ensemble, University of North Florida Percussion ensemble, and at multiple music education conventions, including Percussive Arts Society’s Virginia Day of Percussion, and The Midwest Clinic in Chicago. They have two electronic tracks published under the Canadian label Funky Way Records, Cherry Cola and Floor It.

When it comes to sound design, Jack takes their expertise manipulating typical EDM synthesizers and combines it with their love of Foley art. With this approach to creating sound effects, Jack tends to focus on the larger than life. Massive sci-fi monsters, magic spells, and an emphasis on exaggerating reality.

Outside the world of music, Jack is an avid fan of indie games, MMOs, and anything with weird controls. Video games have been a driving force for Jack’s creativity ever since first holding a Game Boy Advance at age 6. Some personal favorites include the Monster Hunter franchise, Katamari Damacy, 3D Mario games, the Uncharted series, and it’s gotta be mentioned; a lifelong RuneScape addiction.
